Oil Changes
Our experienced service technicians can tell you exactly how important it is that you get your vehicle's engine oil changed on time, every time. Our mechanics are MINI experts and can change your car's engine oil with a great deal of care. When you use our online scheduling tool, you can quickly and easily get your oil changed.
Please remember, there are factors that can cause you to burn through engine oil at a faster rate than normal. Things that can contribute to burning through engine oil at a higher rate include:
- Engine idling
- A sporty driving style
- Breaking-in of the engine
- Various Check Control messages based on the oil level
- Using oil that is not suitable to your vehicle's engine
Our certified MINI mechanics will fill your engine with the proper oil and make sure that your levels are all where they need to be for driving around Redondo Beach. Your oil filter will also get changed, and we only use premium synthetic MINI oils for MINI models.
Oil Change Frequency for Your MINI
How often should you bring your MINI in for an oil change? We recommend getting one between every 4,000 and 6,000 miles. If you do a lot of city driving, that range is going to be the sweet spot for an oil change. If your MINI does not get an oil change often enough, it could develop engine sludge, which can be a serious problem even on newer MINI vehicles.
What is Engine Sludge?
Like every other vehicle out there, MINI cars can develop engine sludge if not serviced in a timely fashion. When sludge builds up, it can block internal oil passageways in the engine, which can lead to chain tensioner failure and engine variable valve timing gear issues.
What does the sludge look like, you ask? It has a dark and thick viscosity to it, which is the result of fuel combustion that is contaminating the engine's motor oil. These harmful byproducts can collect in the oil and, over time, form into thick, nasty sludge. This scenario can even happen to newer vehicles with low mileage if they don't get their oil changed in a timely manner. Vehicles that run a lot in cold weather and in the city are the most susceptible to developing engine sludge. The best way to prevent it from happening is to get your oil changed roughly every 5,000 miles.
